Baker Street is not only known for the 221B, house of the famous Sherlock Holmes! It also hosts a fantastic underground station. I found this during a short business trip I recently did in London. This tube station opened in 1863, as one of the stop of the very first lines. It has since been extended with 3 additional lines. Because of that, its layout is quite complex, mixing different architecture styles across the platforms. While I was looking for this particular platform, I started by the newest one, getting back in time the further I progressed. Interesting trip in time, really 🙂

The older platform, pictured here, hosts the Hammersmith and City Line, one of the 2 first lines that opened in 1863. It represents quite well the Victorian architecture that was en vogue then. The pseudo arches with white tiles mimic the light from the outside. Pretty interesting! It’s really a fantastic place that deserves a visit! It was already quite late in the evening, so the platform was not too full. I noticed this well dressed woman, I rushed to place myself so that I can frame her between two men, the one sitting, and the one on the poster. An almost perfect symmetry! Once again, I love to mix architecture, geometry and people in my urban photography, and this photo does is pretty well I think. I hope you enjoy it !

Please also note that no saxophones were hurt while taking this photo 😉 However I have been having Gerry Rafferty’s song in my head for the past week!

The M4 line is the newest metro line opened in Budapest, Hungary. Also known as the Green Line, it has opened in March 2014. The first section is 10 stations long, from the North-East of the city to the South-West, having to go under the Danube.

The most interesting about this metro line remains the impressive architecture of the stations. As the line goes under the Danube, the stations have been constructed quite deep in the ground, and interesting architectural solution have been found.

Winter has come, the night are starting earlier… and the snow started falling. A perfect setup for moody photos! We’re back in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, in the old city center which used to be part of a citadelle, a long time ago. Old city center means small, narrow streets with old houses. Narrow streets mean great lighting when the night comes. And that is exactly what happened here!

I caught these two women in a passionate discussion in the cold. The snow started to fall pretty hard, they didn’t care about it, absorbed in their stories. They left me all the time in the world to frame this shot the way I wanted it. Thanks girls! I really like those high contrast scenes. It’s pretty much the way it was in real life. The whole street, not being very long, is illuminated by only one light at its middle. The end of the street then disappears in the dark. Who knows what may happen over there?

I was told this photo has a Brassaï “je ne sais quoi”… The comparison is quite amazing to me! Maybe because he was born in Romania, in the same Transylvania this photo was taken 😉 I hope he would have liked this photo.

A new photo essay from yours truly, about the Oser Flea Market, an anachronism in Cluj-Napoca:

In Cluj-Napoca, Romania, Saturday morning means flea market. Be it summer or winter, hot or cold, sun or snow, thousands of people roam every Saturday morning to the Oser flea market. During the communist era, Oser was the place to buy imported goods from Turkey or the former Yougoslavia. Blue jeans, snickers, perfumes could be found there, as well as other black market goods from here and there. It became the flea market in the form we know today a few years after the collapse of the communist regime.

This post is also the occasion to introduce photo essays in my portfolio. I want to go a step further in the photo reporter and storyteller domain by getting deeper into a subject. Another great success for Long legs! After being selected for the WeStreet 2016 book, Long legs has now been featured as one of the winners of the LIGHT photo challenge organised by Valérie Jardin in her awesome podcast, Hit the Streets!

Valérie Jardin is a french photographer living in Minnesota, USA. She is one of the top street photographers, one of those I check their photos everyday searching for inspiration. It’s such a big deal to have her pick one of my shots! Besides her photography skills, she is also a renown instructor and hosts the brand new Hit the Streets podcast. My street photographer friends, it is definitely THE podcast to listen to!
