Let’s continue with the weird and the bizarre with another element of the “Ghost” project. We’re still in the old factory, with another apparition, whose soul is leaving her body toward the window. I just love the light coming out from the window. It really gives an awesome mood to this photo.

Note that this photo has been published recently on 1x.com!

Inside the Initiation Well at Quinta da Regaleira (Sintra, Portugal, 2017). Get a print!

The Initiation Well at Quinta da Regaleira (Sintra, Portugal) has been shot numerous times. I must admit its photogenic potential is absolutely over the top. The hardest was to take it from another angle, try something different. I got lucky to have the unintended help from a tourist that had the marvellous idea to pop his head out of the shadow at the exact right spot where the light was falling from the top of the well down to the bottom, 27 meters below. Thanks a lot sir, you made my day there 😉

The wells at Quinta da Regaleira were used for ceremonial purposes that included Tarot initiation rites. Some tunnels connect the different wells and caves via several underground paths… pretty interesting!

Sometimes while on urban exploration mission you find some incredible places that just ask to be featured on a photo session. That’s the case of this photo. My wife and I switched the scope of the day, shooting an old factory’s abandoned offices, into a photo session where… ghosts invited themselves at the party?! This photo is part of a brand new project named “Ghost”, that I will slowly feature on this website.

Strangers in the Dark XXIV. Cluj-Napoca, Romania, 2017.

Strangers in the Dark XXIV. Cluj-Napoca, Romania, 2017. Part of the “Strangers in the Dark” projectGet a print!

This photo is definitely one of my favourites of 2017. The symmetry of that place is just incredible. The dark hole in the middle of the frame, the not yet lighted street, seems to suck all the light, and the main character of this photo, into its emptiness. Black hole vs bright lines, the fight of the contrasts is still raging out there! The graphic component of this photo is just incredible, typically what I’m expecting to find from a new building.

I must say it’s a photo I didn’t plan at all. I was just out testing my just received Sigma 50mm ƒ/1.4 Art lens when I came by this new “The Office” building. Being a brand new architecture I was expecting to find something interesting, one can say I got served, right? Keep in touch, part of the site is still in the works for a few weeks, I plan to go back there and get a few awesome shots!

By the way, the Sigma 50mm ƒ/1.4 Art is a great piece of glass, a review may come soon!

Surprise! Cluj-Napoca, Romania, 2016. Get a print.

It’s another outstanding day for me! Surprise! has won the 2nd place at the 2017 National Awards of the Sony World Photography Awards! The Sony World Photography Awards is the biggest photography competition in the world and The National Awards is a global program to find the best single photographs taken by local photographers in 66 countries.

It’s such an incredible feeling to have my work recognise in such a way. After being published in 2 books, WeStreet 2016 and the Street Photographer Book vol.2, I am so glad that this photo has been selected amongst 227,596 other amazing photos. My only regret is that I won’t be able to go to London for the Sony World Photography Awards & Martin Parr – 2017 Exhibition at the prestigious Somerset House, London, 21st April – 7th May, 2017, where all the winners’ photos, including Surprise!, will be displayed.

I just want to say thank you to the jury for giving me such an honour, and congrats to all the participants, and to all the winners! I know a few of them, both in real life and virtually, they are all great photographers that deserve to be here. And I’m glad to be next to them 🙂

The full selection of photos can be seen here. More info about the Sony World Photography Awards there.
